History

A Legacy of Passion and Transformation

Mandrez is more than just a wine; it is a tribute to our family's journey, resilience, and unwavering commitment to quality winemaking. Established in 1992 by our grandfather, Agostinho de Oliveira Pinto, Mandrez was born from a bold decision—to transform Quinta do Muro from a livestock farm into a haven of vineyards, embracing a more sustainable and animal-friendly path.

Located in Marco de Canaveses, Porto, Quinta do Muro is steeped in history. As one of the Casas Senhoriais of the Santo Isidoro e Livração region, it played a role in the implantation of the Portuguese Republic on October 5, 1910. This rich heritage is woven into every bottle of Mandrez, carrying forward the spirit of tradition and innovation.

With Agostinho’s passing, Mandrez remains a family-run winery, now lovingly managed by his wife, Maria Celeste Bernardes Pinto, their only daughter, Maria do Céu Pinto, and her husband, João Baptista Ramos, along with the next generation—composer Jorge Ramos and neuroradiologist João Ramos.

A Wine That Reflects Our Land

Mandrez is crafted from a harmonious blend of Arinto, Trajadura, and Azal, grape varieties that thrive in our unique transition-zone terroir. Under the expertise of winemaker Jorge Sousa Pinto, each harvest is carefully timed, with the grapes hand-picked in September at optimal ripeness. The meticulous vinification process ensures that every bottle captures the essence of our vineyard—fresh, aromatic, and full of character.

Mandrez is more than a wine; it’s a legacy bottled with care, a celebration of history, and a toast to the future. From our family to your table—cheers!
